Fumblejacks: Fell Your Enemies!
A downloadable game
You are a lumberjack, and you’ve messed up. Bigtime.
In your mind, you were just working, but little did you know that the last tree you felled was of great import to the local fae. Now the forest seems endless, and, hey, are those trees looking at you funny?
Welcome to your new cursed existence in the humble faewild forest of Heartwood Fell! The only way out is surviving clearing after clearing of wooded foe until you can gather the guarded components you need to fix your mistake. You’d like to think ‘or die trying’ is an option, but the fae have planned for that, and no amount of bark-filled beatings will keep you down for long. Every time you wake up, you are right back where you started, faced with the endless expanse of forest once again…
What Is It?
Fumblejacks: Fell Your Enemies is a TTRPG that aims to emulate the gameplay loop of a roguelike. In each run, you will venture out into the dense faewild forest known as Heartwood Fell. Within which, you will face off against powerful enemies seeking retribution for what you did to their heartwood, gather helpful allies to assist you on your journey, collect powerful artefacts to improve your abilities and gather all the important tools you need to reverse your mistake.
Choose from three different classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and their own unique style of play. Will you be the Axeman with their powerful strikes and versatile abilities? Or does the Safe Feller call to you? His methods are unrelenting. A fighter with a heart of gold who makes more friends than they do enemies. Perhaps instead, you want to be the agile and tricky LumberThwack, using their bare fists to break the bark of their opponents? Whatever your choice, you can tailor your style to fit you with a robust and adaptable stats system that allows you to build your character to be good at what you want them to be.
This is well and truly a system for the dice goblins. The stronger you are, the more dice you roll with a dice pool resolution mechanic that lets you make your checks with a fist full of shiny click-clacks!
A rich and tactical risk-reward combat system where you must decide between striking your opponent just that one more time or having the dice left to defend yourself against its inevitable retort if you don't fell it.
Plenty awaits you in Heartwood Fell, so come on in. Stay a while.
Styles of Play
Standard: 1 - 3 players and a GM. A classic TTRPG playstyle where the GM takes the role of the forest, and the players must find their way through its various dangers
GMless play: 1 - 3 players in a collaborative experience taking on the roles of both the lumberjacks and the forest.
Solo-play: 1 player taking on the roles of both forest and lumberjacks to create a story and challenge themselves.
Journey: A modified playstyle where the journey becomes literal, taking your game outside to draw inspiration from the world around you.
Equipment You Will Need
For your first day on the job, you will need the following:
- This book
- A pen and paper
- A deck of cards
- At least one set of polyhedral dice (it is recommended that each player has a few sets to hand as you will be rolling a lot of dice all at once)
- An extra handful of D6s
- Tokens to represent enemies and lumberjacks.
- Some form of battlemap (Both Hex and Square work, but if you want a more tactical battle experience, Hex is recommended.)
Length of Play
With its dungeon-crawl style, this game works best as a campaign, with an ideal playtime of a run per session. Each run takes 3-5 hours to complete.

A Few Notes At The End
As we are still polishing this game to a shine, we would love to hear what you think! Likes, dislikes, cool trees you saw during your game (one of the devs would LOVE to see any cool bugs you spot) - lay it out for us here: https://discord.gg/x27gGws8SD
Just so you know, whilst we're in beta, we're selling this for a good bit cheaper than we will for the fully finished product, BUT you can still get all the PDF updates when they come out after you've purchased this version! All that costs is your name... 🙂
